Canadian Healthcare

Until you have a serious illness, it may never occur to you that Canada does not actually have a "national" healthcare system. That would be great -- but we don't have it. Instead, we have ten public provincial healthcare systems, a territorial one, and some private coverage mixed in here and there (notably with regard to prescription drug coverage). This can make the experience of dealing with cancer therapy extremely confusing and stressful. Not only are new drugs often not funded by provincial governments for some time after Health Canada approves them for use, but not all the provinces fund the same drugs.

This page will, when constructed, try to address the confusion.
